Howdy, pals. Paddy O'Connell here, but you can call me Paddy O. Fun fact about me is that the thing I love most about the outdoors isn't really the outdoors at all.
"I wasn't tethered to my insecurities because on my snowboard I felt like a superhero."
"Why are we doing this?! Because those are the moments that, like, you look back and you're like, Dude, we lived!"
"If they bike rad if they get into snowboarding, that's cool. But if I just made them laugh, that's Awesome."
You know, spending time outside isn't really a thing we do. Spending time outside is who we are.
"I feel like I've been, like, two halves of people, and then when I get to go skiing, it's like, oh, we're actually a whole."
"It's not so much about an adrenaline rush as it is just like a desire to not live in fear."
"Service to others. Is the cheat code to finding purpose. When we can't find purpose within ourselves."
These are the experiences that shape the way we navigate life.
"Some days, nothing goes as planned, and that has helped me so much as a parent."
"Culture is sitting down on a chairlift with your best friend and when they say, Yeah, I'm good. Asking like, How are you really doing today?"
"I'm using humor in a way to like welcome people in, or show people a lighter side of something that they might be intimidated by."
From the startling realization during a river trip with your friends.
"That was when the wall came down for me was seeing sort of the lie that I've been told my whole life, and realizing that it actually doesn't work that way."
To that brutal ultramarathon that meant more than running an unreasonable distance.
"I had to be living it in that exact moment. to really understand that There's no finish line. There's no summit."
To that funny thing you notice we weird outdoor humans do.
"Black Pants, Black Jacket, One Ball J Backpack. It's like everybody looks the same, everybody has the same avi kit. It's like they all saw one guy and were like, I need to look like that."
The best place to share our outdoorsy insights is around the campfire, or over nachos at Apres, or sitting on the back bumper at the trailhead, or in front of a microphone on this podcast.
"We know how to be prepared, but there's always a lesson in the mountains and it teaches us so much every time we go out there."
"To just like hit the road it created the physical space that my body and my mind needed to start to process what had happened."
"Well, I already took that away. You say I suck, because I already said I suck."
Those conversations, those stories are what you're going to hear in our new twist on your beloved 国产吃瓜黑料 podcast.
"Heck yeah, I want to talk about this."
It doesn't matter how you find inspiration in the outdoors. Whether you're a runner or a skier or a climber or a mushroom hunter, the only thing our community loves more than getting outside is talking about getting outside.
"Before every single mogul competition, I would pee my pants a little bit in the start gate because I just like had so much anxiety."
"We told our nanny we would be back by dinner, we walked in the door at 5. 30 in the morning."
"Oh!"
"First run they test you by making you jump a 10 foot cliff I was like, I might have to go back to the lodge."
