Don鈥檛 be fooled: The , with its 1,000-lumen LED bulb, looks like your average flashlight, but there’s so much more hiding under its sleek, waterproof exterior.聽

The nine-ounce device houses a GPS, a digital two-way radio, and is Bluetooth compatible. Its operating system is capable of running a myriad of apps which you download from the Internet via a USB port or Bluetooth connection. Crashed your mountain bike? Fogo notifies other users while emitting your location. Caught in an avalanche? Fogo works as a beacon. Want to track progress on a trail run? It can monitor heart rate while recording speed, distance, and elevation.

Because the Fogo runs on third party apps, just like your smartphone, its capabilities continue to grow. The company is releasing a software development kit aimed at encouraging local high schools to build a new app for the Fogo. Screw-on caps, which will be released later this year, will turn your flashlight into a laser range finder, satellite backcountry modem, or even a fish finder.

The Fogo is on Kickstarter now, with $35,000 of its $125,000 goal currently funded. Available this fall.聽
