Crescent Moon, manufacturer of hiking and running snowshoes, has been crafting winter walking, hiking, and running gear in Colorado for the past 16 years. We鈥檝e praised their snappy lightweight Magnesium 9 and Gold 13 before. Just announced: Crescent Moon is now making longboards.
Using the same teardrop shaped design of Crescent Moon snowshoes as the basis for the board, the company started experimenting nearly a year ago to make a board for cruising and commuting.聽 They made a hand full of prototypes using a vacuum bag and hand carved mold, lots of messy glue, during some OSHA-unapproved band saw sessions behind Crescent Moon鈥檚 Boulder HQ. They rode and tested all of the boards, with various setups, wheel sizes,and trucks, on one occasion managing to launch Crescent Moon president Jake Thamm into a full-body collision with the sidewalk. That inspired them to hire an employee with longboard building expertise, who helped them nail their unique design: a teardrop shaped, seven-ply, tension loaded, hard rock maple board.
The resulting longboards offer outstanding control in high traffic areas. They easily negotiate the street or sidewalk speed and agility. Each deck is formed into a downcurving shape along the longitudinal axis and upcurving shape in the latitudinal axis for a springy, lively feel and best in class responsiveness. All of the boards are made by hand in Colorado. And they come in two colors, Blonde and Brunette. The boards feature Crescent Moon鈥檚 signature teardrop shape. Thamm says, 鈥淭hey鈥檙e for every hip, young, professional who lives near a sidewalk or paved roads.鈥澛
