We don’t typically associate Dynafit with versatile big mountain skis. The Austrian company鈥攎akers of some of the best, lightest alpine touring bindings on the market鈥攊s better known for gear designed to go uphill, not down. Traditionally, its skis have always been lightweight and fast, best suited to ski mountaineering and long backcountry tours.
That’s why we’re so excited about the new Chugach, the Austrian company鈥檚 first ski designed by their North American athletes. It’s an ample 108 mm underfoot, with an ash and poplar wood core, and an a unique rocker profile鈥擠ynafit calls it 鈥渆lliptical鈥濃攖hat helps create a longer effective edge when you鈥檙e carving them on hardpack.
At four and a half pounds per ski, the Chugachs are hefty by Dynafit standards, which should help them blast through crud. In other words, it鈥檚 the first Dyanfit ski we鈥檝e seen that we would consider skiing all day at the resort鈥攁nd mounting with traditional alpine bindings. Available winter 2015-2016.
