Spectre, the ,聽drops Friday, and while some people might be talking about what car he鈥檚 going to drive聽or what gadgets he鈥檚 going to use, we鈥檙e most excited about the sunglasses he鈥檚 going to wear.
At some point in the film, Mr. Bond聽dons a pair of Glacier sunglasses made by , the company started by Olympic downhill skiing gold medalist Jean Vuarnet back in 1957. These specs first appeared聽in the 1980s and quickly became a fashion piece popularized by musicians such as Miles Davis and Mick Jagger. American distribution stopped in the mid聽1990s, but the glasses continued to make Hollywood appearances, including on Jeff Bridges鈥 face in The Big Lebowski and Luke Wilson鈥檚 in The Royal Tenenbaums. They were re-launched in the U.S. in the fall of 2014, and have appeared most recently on Jake Gyllenhaal聽in Everest, and now on Daniel Craig.
The glasses themselves feature聽polarized mineral glass lenses and leather side pieces designed to block out glaring sun in alpine environments. The original models, like the ones featured in Spectre, have a leather centerpiece over the bridge of the nose. If you look hard enough you can probably find an old pair in a vintage store聽or you can get a brand new pair on the site.
