Rabbit

This running apparel company was founded by Monica DeVreese, mom of two, and Jill Deering, mom of three (soon to be four). The two started Rabbit in 2013 because they were frustrated with the fit and style of most running shorts available to women at the time. The brand has since grown exponentially and recently launched its first running shoe, the Dream Chaser. Rabbit supports professional and elite runners, running clubs, and what they call 鈥淩ADrabbits,鈥 everyday runners who have a passion for community鈥nd running.

How does co-founder DeVreese, juggle running a business, running after kids, and making time to run for herself? 鈥淚t鈥檚 pure chaos!鈥 she says. 鈥淏ut I have always thrived on chaos, so it works for me.鈥 Amidst the chaos, she makes sure she carves out time every single day for a run or some type of movement. 鈥淭his allows me to show up as a better wife, mother, boss, friend, daughter,鈥 she says. 鈥淭his sacred 鈥榤e鈥 time can sometimes feel selfish or have guilt associated with it,鈥 she adds, 鈥渂ut to show up each and every day ready to be the best version of myself and perform at a high level, this is non-negotiable.鈥

Title Nine

Missy Park founded Title Nine in 1989, and the company has remained independently operated ever since. Park was in high school in 1972 when Title IX of the Education Amendments passed, changing the history of women鈥檚 sports. Park went on to play basketball, lacrosse, and tennis at Yale University, and four years later, launched Title Nine to champion women鈥檚 fitness and participation by selling women鈥檚-specific gear and apparel.

She鈥檚 raised two children while running the company and today says that the best part of her job is product testing. (We understand!). 鈥淓very single product we carry goes through rigorous user testing by a whole crew of T9ers and friends,鈥 says Park. 鈥淲hether we build the product ourselves or we select it from one of our many awesome outdoor brands, we test, test, test so that our customer doesn’t have to.鈥

Park says that the most important part of her job is ensuring that the company maintains financial independence. 鈥淭his independence allows us to continue to make choices that best serve the whole crew of moms who call themselves T9ers,鈥 she says.

Title Nine makes and sells its own product, but also selects women鈥檚-specific gear from other companies (most are also run by women) and sells them in their catalog and online.

Wild Rye

Wild Rye has the mission to bring women (鈥淎LL women, femme, and non-binary folks) beautiful and technical mountain apparel that inspires confidence and gets more women outside. Cassie Abel, founder, CEO, and mom, says that she started the company after being frustrated with the offerings for women in the outdoor space, and because she knew the industry 鈥渃ould do a much better job at how brands were speaking to and serving the needs of women.鈥

鈥淣ow seven-plus years in,鈥 she says, 鈥淚鈥檓 so proud to use the Wild Rye platform to speak out for women鈥檚 rights, empowerment, and creating equal opportunities for other women entrepreneurs.鈥 The company has always taken a strong stance in support of reproductive healthcare, and founded , an annual shopping holiday to inspire conscious consumerism in support of women-led brands.

鈥淲e鈥檙e in the business of empowering women and my purpose with Wild Rye is to create something that matters, and that鈥檚 going to make a difference,鈥 says Abel. 鈥淚f I鈥檓 going to miss time with my kiddo, it needs to matter鈥攖o a lot of people鈥攁nd I believe we鈥檙e doing just that.鈥

Kari Traa

Three-time Norwegian Olympic mogul skiing medalist (including a gold in 2002), Kari Traa started knitting her own beanies in the early 2000s because she was tired of wearing tukes made for men. 鈥淎t 28 years old I knew a career in skiing wouldn鈥檛 last forever,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 have a formal education, but, for as long as I can remember, I have always been a creative soul.鈥 She partnered with company Bula to create a women鈥檚 line, 鈥渁 brand for women,鈥 she says, 鈥渃olorful, with playful elements and a bit of craziness. We wanted to show the world that women shouldn鈥檛 have to choose between looking stylish and being a badass skier.鈥

Kari Traa started as a brand built for her, by her (their tagline). 鈥淎s a women-owned and run company, we鈥檙e also a brand that supports women/girls in the fight for their rights. We鈥檙e vocal, unapologetic and we will always be dedicated to helping women become happier, healthier and stronger鈥ot only at work, but in everything they do鈥攆rom their roles as friends, mothers, and family members, as well as in their own interests鈥攚hether it鈥檚 athletics or hobbies.鈥
