More than a month after filed a against Visit Salt Lake for branding the Utah capital as 鈥,鈥 the two sides have settled out of court.
Salt Lake City鈥檚 tourism bureau began its 鈥淪ki City鈥 marketing campaign in September; Steamboat鈥攚hich has been using 鈥淪ki Town, USA鈥 since 1959 and holds the trademark on the name鈥攂rought its complaint to the Federal District Court for the District of Colorado in early October. Steamboat contended in a statement that the similarity between the two names 鈥渃reates confusion and tries to take advantage of our registered trademark for [Salt Lake鈥檚] own commercial purposes.鈥 The Colorado ski destination also named Salt Lake鈥揳rea , , , and resorts in the complaint.
Late last week, Steamboat that it reached a settlement with Visit Salt Lake. As part of the agreement, Steamboat will drop its case, and Visit Salt Lake will tweak its advertising campaign. Other details have been kept confidential.
