Environmental nonprofit Conservation International (CI) debuted its Wednesday at the with the release of six short films voiced by A-list celebrities. The campaign aims to involve people in environmental activism by narrating problems from the earth鈥檚 perspective, explains M. Sanjayan, CI鈥檚 senior scientist and executive vice president.
鈥淏y using this astonishing array of top talent, we鈥檙e attempting to get people鈥檚 attention with something familiar,鈥 Sanjayan told 国产吃瓜黑料. 鈥淵ou know that voice鈥攏ot immediately, but you know it鈥攁nd since you don鈥檛 see faces, you鈥檙e not being preached to. You鈥檙e really feeling the character.鈥
The project, conceptualized by CI chairperson and director聽 (of Apple鈥檚 鈥1984鈥 ad fame), is CI鈥檚 attempt to rethink environmental awareness. By highlighting different aspects of nature鈥攍ike 聽(Edward Norton) and 聽(Harrison Ford)鈥攖he films force the audience to directly confront聽a version of nature that is demanding, not victimized. The goal? Make the audience feel accountable鈥攁nd force them to realize that聽.
CI stands to benefit, of course鈥攁s part of its聽, Hewlitt-Packard will donate $1 (and a maximum of $1 million) every time someone includes #NatureIsSpeaking in a tweet.
The organization is not yet sharing how much the project cost, Sanjayan says, since it鈥檚 far from over: The films are being shot as shorts because CI found that the demand to voice them is greater than initially expected. A聽number of stars have asked to donate time and voice to the project, and CI is still coming up with ways to get them involved. However, Sanjayan says that CI has received most of its funding from supporters and board members and hasn鈥檛 needed to redirect money from its other projects.
鈥淏eing an environmental organization, we don鈥檛 have a big advertising budget,鈥 Sanjayan says. 鈥淲e have to rely on friends 鈥 but our spend rate on this thing is way lower considering the scale and magnitude of the messaging.鈥
