Levi Leipheimer of team Radio Shack won of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge on Tuesday with a in the last 500 yards of the 99.3-mile stage. Leipheimer鈥檚 time, along with a 10-second bonus for the stage win, was just enough to put him on top of the challenge. He now stands ahead of Team Garmin-Cervelo鈥檚 Christian Vande Velde. The last 500 yards of the stage featured a climb that tapered off toward the end, and Leipheimer timed his attack so he could create space early without having to continue the effort as the course flattened to the finish. 鈥淚鈥檝e never won a race with an explosive style,鈥 Leipheimer said. 鈥淪o I guess in my old age, I鈥檓 learning new tricks.鈥 Leipheimer鈥檚 attack put him in front of Colombia鈥檚 Sergio Henao by just four seconds, but a middle-of-the-pack finish by Henao in Monday鈥檚 time trial set him back. Leipheimer had a disappointing and crash-filled Tour de France last month, but currently leads the three Tour medalists, Cadel Evans, and Frank and Andy Shleck, by 17 seconds, 42 seconds, and 1 minute, 38 seconds, respectively.
