Despite the claims of some of his Italian competitors, Ted Ligety is actually just that good. Ligety, who sits in second place in the overall World Cup standings, has dominated the giant-slalom circuit, . With new rules instituted this season requiring longer, straighter skis, Italian racers Manfred Moelgg and Davide Simoncelli have publicly questioned the legality of Ligety鈥檚 equipment. “It seems to me the tails are wider,” Moelgg said, while Simoncelli added, “It does raise some doubts.”
But the International Ski Federation鈥檚 equipment controller, Mike Keretz, who randomly measures skiers鈥 boots, suits, and skis in the finish areas at all events, says Ligety鈥檚 skis are legit. 鈥淚 measured his skis in both runs and I measured his race suit for permeability since he was in the top three,鈥 Keretz said, 鈥渁nd he was within the FIS equipment rules.”聽
