Buttercup, the peg-leg duck, is set to this weekend. Hatched in a high school biology lab with a backward foot, Buttercup had difficulty walking and had his damaged foot amputated at an early age.聽
“When he would walk outside, his leg would start bleeding,” Mike Garey of Feathered Angels Waterfowl Sanctuary told USA Today. “I knew Buttercup would be better off as a peg-leg duck than a duck with a disabled foot.”
Gary reached out to 3-D printing company NovaCopy and the company agreed to help Buttercup regain his footing. They scanned his functional right foot, and Garey took Buttercup in to get a cast for his peg to help the prosthetic fit comfortably. If all goes well, Buttercup will have a new foot by the end of the day.
