For the second year in a row, Washington, D.C., garnered the top spot as the healthiest metropolitan area in the American College of Sports Medicine鈥檚 latest , released this month.聽
The list includes聽the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Minneapolis-St. Paul and San Diego-Carlsbad were second and third healthiest, respectively, while Oklahoma City, Memphis, and Indianapolis garnered the three worst rankings. D.C. earned a score of 79.6 out of a maximum of 100, while the Indianapolis area scored just 26.8.聽
The index is designed to reflect a 鈥渃omposite of personal health measures, preventive health behaviors, levels of chronic disease conditions, as well as environmental and community resources and policies that support physical activity.鈥 The report gives detailed breakdowns of how each community fared in the component categories.
