On Wednesday, Governor John Hickenlooper announced that Colorado plans to invest more than $100 million in biking infrastructure, . The money will be spent over the next four years to add bike lanes, educate drivers, provide greater access to bicycles, and install road signals and signs specifically for cyclists, .

Hickenlooper announced the spending plan during the Industry Breakfast at Interbike, the country’s largest bike trade show, in Las Vegas. Hickenlooper said he wants to emulate Denmark’s biking culture, where biking infrastructure accounts for 25 percent of the road budget, according to the Denver Post.

“Our goal is to make Colorado the best state for biking in the country, which will help fuel our robust economic growth and tourism industry, move us toward a cleaner environment, and advance our goal of being the healthiest state in the nation,” Hickenlooper said at the event, according to Gear Junkie.
