On Monday, Amtrak announced that it has expanded its 鈥渞oll-on, roll-off鈥澛燼ccess for passengers traveling with bicycles along Capitol Limited, the line between Chicago and Washington, DC, .
Roll-on, roll-off access costs $20 and allows riders to lock their bikes on a rack in the baggage cars rather than disassembling them to fit into a $15 carrying box, plus a聽$10 fee, for a total of $25. Easy bike access was already available for short-line travel in Oklahoma, Texas, and the Great Lakes region, but the Capitol Limited line is the first Amtrak overnight route to offer expanded bicycle access. Amtrak officials say it will make it easier to travel the country on two wheels.
鈥淲e wanted to get this bike pilot project started before fall color season in order to receive a lot of feedback from cyclists, who will now be able to go to any stop along the route,鈥澛燗mtrak spokesman Marc Magliari .
Expanded bike access on the Capitol Limited line means聽cyclists are now able to visit parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio, in addition to Chicago and Washington, DC, without disassembling their bikes.
