A 24-year-old Alpine Meadows ski instructor, while skiing in the backcountry near Lake Tahoe. Kjolhede struck a submerged rock during a run, severely damaging her head and neck despite the fact that she was wearing a helmet. She was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, where she died Tuesday night. She had been with Alpine Meadows for a year. The resort released a written statement saying, “Her outgoing personality, passion for working with kids, and friendly nature will be remembered and missed by all her friends and colleagues here at Squaw and Alpine. Her passing is a tragic loss for our team and community.”
