A 7-year-old boy summited California’s 14,505-foot Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48 U.S. States, becoming the ever to climb the mountain. Tyler Armstrong, from Yorba Linda, California began the hike with his father around 2 A.M. on July 26, hiking 11 miles from 8,500 feet to the mountain’s peak by noon. They returned to their starting point just before 7 P.M. Other than a few scraps on his knee from tripping, Tyler made it up and down in high spirits. “I want to climb every mountain there is, if that’s possible,” Armstrong . He next hopes to climb Tanzania’s Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak at 19,336 feet.
