Federal agents have in an operation on public lands in California and six other western states. The two-month operation, dubbed Mountain Sweep, netted over 550,000 pot plants and eight firearms and shut down more than 96 grow sites, including many in several different National Parks, such as Death Valley, Sequoia, and Mendocino National Forests. “Marijuana trafficking organizations seek to turn our nation’s parks and public lands into their own drug havens,” said DEA administrator Michele M. Leonhart. The operation included personnel and support from the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, and other agencies. Marijuana farming on public lands has become prolific and violent, as 国产吃瓜黑料 correspondent Damon Tabor reported in the June 2012 article Weed Whackers.
