Seeing the West’s national parks from an RV
Question: I’m planning to take a 15- to 18-day trip with my family next summer to visit some national parks. The idea is to rent two motor homes and visit Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Teton, etc. I was told the best thing for us would be to fly from Rome to Chicago and then rent a motor home in Salt Lake City. What kind of path do you suggest for
us? Can you tell me the name of a few motor home rental companies in Salt Lake City? Do you think we need to book the campgrounds in advance?

国产吃瓜黑料 Adviser: Your plan is a good one. Because Salt Lake City has an international airport, chances are you can get pretty reasonable flights directly from Rome to Salt Lake City.

When you get to Salt Lake, a company called Mike’s Motor Home Rentals (801-942-5044) will pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the motor home lot, where you will be taught how to properly use the RV.

The cost per week for a class C rental is $950, plus $.20 per mile. Each motor home can sleep up to eight people and has a full-size queen bed, a kitchen with a microwave, a bathroom, and plenty other amenities that you’ll find will come in handy.

You will need an international driver’s license, and you’ll also need to book the motor home almost immediately 鈥 Mike told me he’s already completely booked for the month of July. If Mike is booked, try Intermountain Sports RV Superstore (801-266-4449). It doesn’t have 1998 rates listed yet, but will have them soon.

In order to ensure a campsite in most of the national parks, you will need to make advance reservations. There is a toll-free number to call within the United States, but the best way to make reservations from Rome is to call each park individually. You can reach Yellowstone at 307-344-7381, Glacier at 406-888-5441, and Grand Teton at 307-733-2880.
